Due to the exhaustion of Earth’s resources, governments around the world have designed a project to save the future of the human race. Through multiple globally aligned attempts, the governments of the world settled on mining nearby asteroids in the Kuiper Belt between Mars and Jupiter for various minerals and resources essential to the continued precarious survival of our species. Combined with NANO, specialized Nanotechnology created by our scientists, we found a way to fabricate entire sustainable mining colonies and ships in space to help with this effort. Valuable minerals, ores, and liquids lay within our grasp.
With nearly all of the resources coming from off world, governments quickly saw the collapse of their currency and uncontrolled inflation. Massive corporations took advantage of the chaos to step in and take over mining of these asteroids. And now, in the darkness of space, previous tenuous agreements between governments are nonexistent. With no authoritative body in the belt to maintain order, open warfare has become a profitable tactic for those unable to lay claim to the best mining locations.
An asteroid floats through space, its cavernous interior ripe with minerals and secrets to be plundered.
With a violent shudder and a sound heard only within the rock, a massive harvester lands on the asteroid’s surface. Metal pitons drive into the asteroid’s face, holding the ship in place. A door irises open in the base of the harvester, and a giant drill drives down, tearing a hole into the rock, creating a tunnel from the surface into the hollow interior.
Some are scouts, mapping the interior of the asteroid. Others are mining drones, tearing through the walls to extend tunnels in every direction. Others are guardians, ready to attack anything that threatens the scouts and miners.
The haulers gather ore extracted by the miners and deliver it back to the harvester. Suddenly there’s movement in the dark tunnels: a rival corporation’s drones! They open fire on the hauler, trying to blast its precious cargo free. The escorts open fire, trying to give the hauler cover so it can drop off its valuable find…
