Factions

In the STFUniverse there are corporate factions vying for control of the best locations throughout the Kuiper Belt. These factions are also associated with specific ships and unique thematic approaches to gameplay. As we introduce faction based locations, the lore of these groups will become more clear, helping the player decide where in this universe they belong.
The original corporation that carried humanity to the stars. Started with the intention of saving humanity, it still operated as a megacorp would on Earth, with a visionary CEO (Jobs/Musk) and a hierarchy of upper and middle management who oversaw the corporate goals and objectives.
The motto was All for One Cause: Save Humanity. But it was All for One Man: The enrichment of the CEO, maintaining his position as the lead of the oligarchy on Earth. Over the time spent away from Earth, splinters of “employees” left Futurecorp for different reasons, establishing the the Collective, Gaia, and Neverset.
The CEO tried to punish them in a variety of ways (making it harder for them to do business/outright union-busting-style tactics), but they persisted.
Eventually the CEO died, and when he did, the flow of people dramatically shifted away from Futurecorp to the other orgs as his Senior Leadership fought amongst itself for what power remained at Futurecorp, until it was a shell of what it was.
All it had left was a lot of leftover ships, equipment, and asteroid maps, with everything of value being sucked up as fast as possible by the other factions. All it had left was the most basic of ships, wrapped in cracked and fading corporate slogans and feel-good messaging of what could be.
Traditionalists who send lots of their resources back to Earth to keep her going.
In an attempt for honoring the world their species was born, the companies that formed this Meta-Corporation named it after the Greek Titan mother of Earth.
Niferite, a commercial name for an ionized mineral heavily rich in Nickel (Ni) and Iron (Fe), the same elements found in Earth’s core (which is indeed called Nife).
Niferite is hauled all the way back to Earth, where it is carefully “fed” to the planet’s core through a system of artificial volcanoes. This is the only thing that keeps humanity’s crib from collapsing.
At the same time, ionized Niferite is incredibly useful for mining purposes. With the largest population of all the factions and the control of this wonderous resource, Gaia.inc has the greatest mining fleet.
Or simply “The Collective”. Anarchists who collect and share amongst each other equally, but will deal in the capitalist system, as they need to survive.
This is the wealthiest Meta-Corporation, and they are convinced they’re the only ones who can truly save humanity.
Neo-Gold is the commercial name for a weird alloy of Gold and Platinum that, so far, is mostly found in the Trojans and Greeks asteroids.
It’s nearly impossible to obtain this metal in a lab without greatly reducing the mass of the original gold an platinum, resources that are already scarce on Earth.
Neo-Gold conducts electricity like no other metal and it’s the best material for circuitry.
Universalists who know Earth is doomed, but seek to establish a New Universal Order of humans populating galaxies, so the Suns Never Set on Humanity. They are capitalists driven to expand free trade between a growing, independent network of small corporations.
Although this community of scientists is far from being peaceful: Neverset is extremely expansionist and they are the ultimate conquerors of the universe.
Deuterium proved to be essential in restoring Earth, but it’s also amazing for terraforming endeavors, which is crucial for Neverset.
Deuterium is also the most efficient fuel, preventing engine deterioration, and an ounce of this resource allows for several thousands of miles worth of space travel.
The only way of being truly free in this system is owning your own spaceship or spaceships. If you don’t, you belong to a Meta-Corporation.
The Kuiper DAO or K-DAO is a decentralized Meta-Corporation, a union of pilots that work for a single purpose.
