### Sleek and vigorous

The Epimetheus supports teams by restoring damaged shields using its “energy converter” tool. Considered the “mechanic” ship, it is still one of the best choices for “babysitting” rookie pilots and support convoys through high stress zones.

### Epimetheus Tech Tree

1. **Nano Toolkit Frame** (*starting point node*): A basic upgrade for all Epimetheus Ships that includes simple but state-of-the-art nanotechnology. Repair Tool and Manufacturer cost 1 less Ore, but cost 15% more Energy.
2. **Extra Shielding**: Increase Shield by 10 points.
 * Prerequisites: **Nano Toolkit Frame (1).**
3. **Tinkerer's Box**: Increase Gadget Capacity by 2.
 * Prerequisites: **Nano Toolkit Frame (1).**
4. **Titanium Shielding Frame** (*starting point node*): Reinforce the ship hull with titanium linings, enhancing its overall structure. **HP** is increased by 40 and **Maneuverability** is \*\*\*\*increased by 2 points.
5. **Ionic Pulsator**: A tool placed in your Titanium Frame that emits defensive ion pulses. Deploying Gadgets other than Flare or picking up Power Ups reduces damage received by friendly ships within range (including self) by 20% for 5 seconds. This effect doesn’t stack; reapplying it causes the buff timer to reset.
 * Prerequisites: **Titanium Shielding Frame (4) + Extra Shielding (2) + Tinkerer's Box (3)**
6. **Thermal Release Valve**: Overheat generated by repair tools is repurposed to improve the ship weapons. Increase damage done by 10% for 20 seconds after repairing a friendly ship or restoring its shield. This effect doesn’t stack; reapplying it causes the buff timer to reset.
 * Prerequisites: **Ionic Pulsator (5)**
7. **Amplifier Servos**: A set of servos carefully placed towards the Epimetheus tools that can amplify the mechanic ship purposes. Increases the amount of hull and shield restored by Repair Tool and Energy Converter by 10%.
 * Prerequisites: **Ionic Pulsator (5)**
8. **Backup Battery**: Increase Energy by 20 points.
 * Prerequisites: **Titanium Shielding Frame (4)**
9. **Extra Steel Plates**: Increase HP by 10 points.
 * Prerequisites: **Titanium Shielding Frame (4)**

### Background

After losing significant market share to NEX’s *Sabre* series in the late 2260s, Starbright Futurecorp turned its attention towards identifying underserved combat duties. Executives saw in-situ shield restoration as a competitor-free niche and proposed a project to fill that role. Design commenced in 2271, with several early prototypes being rejected in favor of Karl Li’s stylish concept.

Equipped with an early “energy converter” tool, the MS-11 *Epimetheus* series saw immediate success when introduced to the public in 2276. It quickly dominated the market for field repairs, reigning unchallenged until the 2290s.

Unlike many other ships of that generation, Starbright has continually updated the *Epimetheus* while keeping the ship’s classic lines. Today’s *Epimetheus* includes many modern conveniences like fast-changing weapon hardpoints and the ability to build subassemblies ahead of time and rapidly finish construction in the battlespace.
