Following the ratification of the 2260 “Gentlemen’s” HR Agreement, ship manufacturers faced a number of challenges to maintain combat effectiveness. Because of their long history of building armed drones for military applications, NEX’s Norvair-Curtiss division launched one of the first and most successful first-generation ships.
NEX swiftly adapted their popular F-92 Rapier to unmanned operation, by replacing the pressurized cockpit with armored computer bays from their RQ-86 Hound prospecting probes. Later models added numerous refinements and options, such as upgraded laser mounts on “D” and “G” revisions and the world’s first “utility-fog” shielding system, which debuted on the “M” version in 2286.
Marketed by Starbright Futurecorp since 2302, the Sabre is still a popular choice for new pilots and training academies. Today’s FQ-4T contains more than half a century of improvements, including modern energy capacitors, advanced hot-swappable weapons mounts, and nanofac-ready rapid assembly subsystems that enable young pilots to return to battle quickly and inexpensively.
